Dr. Nathaniel Wilson Responds To The 2008 Presidential Election

NathanielJ.Wilson_thumb2Nathaniel J. Wilson, Ed.D. Dr. Wilson is the founding pastor of The Rock Church in Sacramento, Ca. He is also founder of Apostolic School of Theology, formerly College at The Rock, author of several books, and adjunct faculty member of Patten University (Oakland,CA). He serves on the Executive Counsel of the World Wide Pentecostal Fellowship and was speaker and director of Harvestime International Radio Ministry for the UPCI (1979-1981). The election of Barack Obama is a historic crossroads for the United States.  For some there are starry predictions of radical positive change.  For others, predictions of dire consequences soon to come.  The truth is probably somewhere in between.  For the Apostolic, the main thing is to remember that God puts up and takes down, and that, ultimately, all remains in His hands. Politics is a strange thing, and of such complexity that extreme caution is in order in hastily drawing conclusions

Regarding elections, personalities, agendas, and such like.  The magnitude of conflicting forces constantly at work create a foment that even the victorious politician can often not control. From things that look good can come unexpected negatives. Likewise from things which appear foreboding can come results which are positive.

For example, it is now a matter of record that the candidacy of Mr. Obama resulted in an extremely large turnout of black voters. This played a role in his election.  If you were opposed to the election of Mr. Obama, you may view this negatively.  However, it was this same black vote (70%) along with the Hispanic vote (53%) which assisted Proposition 8 (Marriage is between a man and a woman) to pass in California.  One might ask, what is more important, the election of the President, or preserving the foundation of American society?  Further, while the Republican Party touts “Family Values”, John McCain admitted to unfaithfulness ending in divorce and remarriage, while Mr. Obama is the one with the nuclear family.

Did I vote for Mr. Obama?  No.

Do I espouse most of his policy positions?  No.

Would I vote for a black man?  Yes.

Would I vote for a liberal?  No.

However, with all of that said, who knows what God may do.  He is full of surprises.  Politicians are still just men, (and women) and God is able to touch them in ways that even they would never have expected.  In the meantime:

“The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance, and of my cup. Thou are mine lot.

The lines have fallen unto me in pleasant place.  I have a goodly heritage.

ps  Did I hear Obama is going to an Apostolic church in Chicago?

I am a pentecostal African American male who did not vote for Obama as well. I disagree with same sex and pro abortion policy, however; his economic policy i somewhat agree with. I agree with you that God control the final outcome of all and i feel that we (the church) must cont. to pray through out this new White house leadership…

Bishop Wilson is one of the most intelligent people you will ever meet, he’s honest, and to the point. In short, I loved this article! Not to mention that it was very objective, and informative.

I came to this site for the first time today via Google, and was impressed. I hope my opinion is taken for what it is,an opinion.

I wasn’t thrilled with either candidate, it took me awhile to decide what to do. I most certainly am not for abortion, or same sex marriage. This was a tough call.

I was for Bush the last elections. As we all know,no politician is perfect. If we want perfection, we need to look to God. So with that being said; I did vote for Obama.

Obama is at least a family man, and believes in God. Obama has worked hard for this opportunity, and has now opened the door for more hard working minorities to realize the dream of becoming President. I know I’m not supposed to say that.. Alot of people do not like hearing that. But, it’s true.

Not to mention that the relationship between him and his wife, has showed the world a loving African American marriage! Hollywood, & the Media, etc., rarely show that it exhists in the world today.

In addition, Never before now, has an African American parent been able to tell their child sincerely, (& in all honesty) that they too, could grow up to become President.
I have said it, but deep down did not believe it. I am not the only one. I hate to say that as well, but it’s true. The door is now open.

All though the times are indeed worsening, that has at least changed for the better.

In the meantime, we will wait to see what good he does, and I hope he will have a revelation about some of his views.

I actually feel sorry for him; There’s a big mess to clean up.

But that’s just my thought/opinion.
