A London based pro-life/pro-family Christian organization is suing Google on the grounds that it refused to allow Google AdWords on the organizations site.
According to the Christian Institute – the organization filing the suit – a representative from Google told them “Google policy does not permit the advertisement of websites that contain ‘abortion and religion-related content’”. However, it does not appear that Google is simply trying to stay out of the abortion debate. The company allegedly has no problem allowing it’s services on pro-abortion sites – it only refuses it’s services to pro-life sites.
According to the law suit, Google has over 80 million users a month and are the defacto “doorway to the Internet and gatekeeper to the marketplace of debate”. They are accusing Google of stifling free speech by giving a voice only to secular groups while ignoring and censoring religious views.
Google’s policy of refusing services to Christian sites is not a new phenomenon and is not restricted to the United Kingdom. Christian organizations have attempted to bring Google’s anti-religious practices to light for quite some time.
