Randy Brown, an executive with the American Jewish Comittee, has been instrumental in pioneering Jewish-Latino relations. Brown, who visited Hispanic Pentecostal congregations in Souther California, was surprised to observe the Pentecostals’ strong support for Israel, displays of Star-of-David flags, and the use of Hebrew words in worship and church names.
In an effort to strengthen relations, Brown’s agency organized a trip to Israel for Hispanic Pentecostal pastors and offered a course entitled “The Essence of Judaism” at a Southern California Pentecostal seminary. Pastors and their families were also invited to Passover seders and Sukkot harvest celebrations.
Many Pentecostals recognize the important role of the Nation of Israel in fulfilling biblical prophecies and accept the modern state of Israel to be a precondition of Christ’s imminent return.
