Chatfields Boutique, located in Des Peres, Missouri, opened its doors in July 2008 with the taglin “an unexpected wedding store.” The unique shop carries hard-to-find wedding attire, like gowns for pregnant brides and extremely modest dresses.
Some of the gowns are classed as “Modesty Style” or “Temple Ready”, featuring high necklines and long sleeves. These bridal dresses are targeted at Jews and Christians who require brides to wear modest apparel for their wedding ceremonies.
Debbie Welcher, the propietor of the shop, is a member of a St. Louis evangelical church. The store’s manager, Becky Bowers, says: “Every denomination has girls who want a church wedding and want to dress modestly. Jewish girls, Catholic girls, Pentecostal girls–in the Bible Belt, where there are lots of conservative Christian churches, we have a lot of customers.”
